Welcome to the high speed thrills and spills of Elite League Speedway ... and the Lakeside Hammers, the 2009 Elite League Knockout Cup winners !
The growth of the team over the last couple of years has been remarkable. Taken into new ownership for the 2007 season, the Club progressed in 2008 and rocketed up the table in the top flight speedway league in the UK to realise it's first ambition of securing a place in the season-ending play-offs. Grand finalists and finishing a hugely successful joint first position in the table, the team followed that up by reaching the play-offs for the second consecutive season in 2009 and tasted Cup glory just three weeks later. The league title itself is the Club's ambition next season.
Speedway is a fantastic night out and one of the world's most unique motorsports - in the Elite League, riders from two teams compete against each other on 500cc methanol-fuelled bikes capable of reaching speeds up to 80mph ! If that sounds exciting, bear in mind that these machines also have no brakes !
