Lakeside Hammers 55 -Swindon Robins 40

Hammers return to winning ways

Elite League A Fixture : Friday 23rd April 2010

Lakeside put the disappointment of the previous evening's defeat at Coventry behind them with this comfortable victory over Swindon.

It was a solid performance from the home side with each and every member of the team being paid for at least eight points. Contrast Swindon, who were largely a three man side and who relied heavily on the magnificent scoring of former Hammers skipper Leigh Adams.

Adams returned to the track he served with such distinction in the mid nineties and looked nigh on untouchable in his first four outings, opening proceedings with a comprehensive victory over Krzysztof Kasprzak. He followed that up with a stunning tactical ride outing in heat five when he made amends for a slippery gate by charging down Jonas Davidsson and passing him around the outside of turn two on his way to a six point haul.

It was Hammers' own Aussie star Adam Shields who eventually ended the run of his compatriot, flying from the gate in heat fifteen to prevent the visiting skipper from leaving the Arena Raceway with a full score.

Adams' early tactical outing was a result of a powerful start by the home side, who rattled in heat advantages in three of the first four heats to leave visiting team boss Ronnie Russell little option but to play his card early. The Hammers soon restored their lead and more when Paul Hurry produced a very determined ride in heat seven to pass Simon Stead on the second lap and force another Hammers 5-1 behind partner Shields.

Daniel Davidsson showed supreme gating form in his first three outings and the third of these was jet propelled as he teamed up with Stuart Robson for another Hammers maximum at the turn. The resulting twelve point advantage afforded Russell another opportunity to made in-roads tactically but black-and-white nominee Mads Korneliussen was outgated by Kauko Nieminen and ultimately denied a six point score.

Hurry was again in the mix providing plenty of action in heat twelve when he endured a lengthy scrap with Grzegorz Zengota as Adams again led the way. This was the second of what was to prove a series of six shared heats to finish as both sides traded heat winners with last places before Shields ended the evening with that final heat triumph.
