| I wonder how the Elite League would look if they band all overseas riders? just a thought. |

They'd look pretty daft in court given the wonderful EU employment laws we supposedly come under I would have thought!

I believe there is but, maybe, Poland don't take any notice of the EU? |

The EU allows restrictions on the number of foreign people in all sports, what number that it would be for speedway I do not know. The thing is that the members of the BSPA are also the business owners or promoters and if they agreed not to sign foreign riders it would create little or no legal problems. Sports vary on numbers but it seems to me that the minimum restriction on foreign players seems to be around a thirds of the teams squad.
I do not want a ban on all foreign riders in an league as I believe it would be detrimental to British speedway and British speedway riders. What I do believe is that we should be retricted to riders of a certain ability and that all foreign riders have to have a seven point average minimum for the whole of their British career.

As you suggest, Judy, the solution is quite simple but it is unlikely ever to happen. Can you ever see the promoters working together for the good of speedway as a whole rather than their own ends? |

Looking at the 2010 line ups on the BSPA site (not counting D/U riders) I could only count 13 british riders in the whole of the Elite League. So if there was a restriction on foreign riders The Elite league as it stands would appear to be hard pressed to field nine full teams. To be honest I doubt if there is many more than 60 British Riders currenly riding in both the Elite league and the Premier league combined. |

There are now so few UK riders available the PL would struggle to find enough riders to fill 7 man teams !
AS for the el there are so few meetings taking place I doubt any young up and coming rider could afford to ride in this league.
The loss of second half opportunities at all eltracks has serioulsy dented the supply of budding yung reserves with track experioence who could be called upon to be given a trial at an el club. PLUS the over complicated and restrictive regulations governing who can be used in a reserve berth deny clubs the chance to try new reserve riders.
the loss of second halfs has been a major problem. The second half was a steping stone for many a young britt comming through. |

For me the winner was Speedway. Yes GB won and that was great. That meeting for me was the best advert for TV that you could have had.For once Pearson's rantings were near the mark!!!
Anything that you love about the sport was there, great racing, passing, some controversy, good track (that the riders liked). And what an atmosphere!! Big big crowd. That track and stadia were Elite league class, surely if money could be found then KL should and could be in the EL. Someone watching with me was well chuffed with what he saw and he doesn't like sport. Regardless of which Hammer was racing Speedway for me was the big winner. Love or loath the big occasions last night was a treat!! |

I though that this meeting was due to start at 7pm but of course it was the usual farce of talking crap for over half an hour: The result of which was that I could not stay awake long enough to see the last four races. I am however very happy to see that Great Britain (Not damn "Team GB") won the meeting, the only problem is that I believe the winner will come from Thursdays meeting but I could be wrong. |
