HAMMERS RECORD: Jonas impressed the Hammers management in the first part of the 2008 campaign and was, therefore, signed in a mid-term full transfer from Swindon. He suffered a serious injury whilst appearing in his homeland towards the latter part of 2008 but he determinedly returned to the saddle for the Play-Off final against Poole. In that season he averaged 6.75 excluding bonus points from his 24 Elite league matches.
He increased that average in 2009 to 7.97 from 31 matches winning 66 of his 149 rides. At home he was top of the Hammers averages in 2009 achieving an average of 9.45 winning 45 of his 77 races. He also had the distinction of not finishing in last place or failing to finish in any of the 21 matches during which he took 98 rides. Jonas was voted ‘Hammers Rider of the year’ for 2009.
