Adam Shields stunned the speedway world when he joined the Hammers with his then Eastbourne Promoter Jon Cook at the end of 2006 on a full transfer.
Adam spent three years riding full time with the Eagles, making the move from the Isle of Wight where he served his British Speedway apprenticeship.
Adam proved a huge success during his time with the Islanders, claiming the prestigious end-of-season PLRC title in 2002.
A series of serious injuries in 2006 put a huge dampener on his racing campaign - but Adam put together a strong 2007 season to assume the captaincy of the Hammers and claim the "rider of the year" award.
